Highlights from this week:

  • Floor install is now complete.
  • Painting is complete in the main school building.
  • Upper level classrooms are clean and awaiting white boards and furnishings.
  • PreK Modular interior is 90% complete. Ceiling, lights, door, paint and fire alarm were being installed this week.
  • IT and phone systems have been installed.
  • The playground fence was installed.
  • New doors were installed on the Fine Arts room.
  • The electrical inspection is scheduled for Monday.
  • Many furnishings have been delivered and are being installed, while some items are already being moved from the Alive building.
  • A storage rack and multi-level chair racks were added to the new building gym storage.
  • The new building gym is currently a staging and building area.
  • The Alive cafeteria is now a staging area for items to sell/donate.
  • School furniture and supplies at Alive are packed and ready to be moved!
Updates – December 13, 2024

Highlights from this week:

  • Teachers, staff, and students are starting to pack books and materials (photos above of 6th grade students helping Mrs. Chronister).
  • We’re praying to St. Anne, patron of moving houses. Please join us in asking her intercession for a smooth moving process over the next few weeks!
  • Upper level painting is completed at the new building and remaining painting will be completed next week.
  • A deep cleaning will start next week in preparation for our big move on December 30 and 31.
  • The playground fence installation was started today.
  • Room furnishings are starting to be delivered (photo below).
Updates – December 6, 2024

Highlights from this week:

  • Plans to unpack on January 2 and 3 are in place.
  • All wiring is complete. The new ATT service for internet and phone will be installed December 6. Phones to be installed by December 13. All IT infrastructure will be configured and operational by December 20.
  • The floor install is complete. Some floor trim needs to be installed after painting is complete.
  • Blinds were installed for both upper and lower school windows.
  • The concrete pad and electrical were installed for the new heating and cooling unit for the Fine Arts room.
  • Painting is scheduled to complete December 13.
  • All renovations for the modular are now approved by the county. Only a final inspection is needed after renovations are complete.
  • New furnishings are on order. Many will arrive before Jan 6. Some will arrive after January 6, but temporary furnishings will be installed or moved until new arrive in February.
  • The playground fence will be complete by December 27.
  • We are working on interior and exterior signage for rooms, walkways, and the parking lot.
  • The fire alarm is now operational. A few tasks remain, but they are on track to complete in the next two weeks. The old fire alarm is being removed and the Fire Marshall is very happy!

Highlights from this week:

  • Flooring is now 95% done.
  • Painting is close to 60% complete.
  • Electrical is about 95% finished and the fire marshal is scheduled for an early December fire alarm approval.

  • Packing plans are in place. All packing will need to be completed by end of day, December 20.
  • Drywall is installed in the modular.
  • The county inspector provided early inspection and comments. No major issues were discovered!
  • Wiring for phones and data is completed.
  • New school floor is now 90% complete.
  • Painting is about 50% complete.
  • Access control is being scheduled for install.
  • Playground fence is being scheduled for install.

Highlights from this week:

  • Fire alarm was tested and is operational in test mode. We will cutover to new system the first week of December.
  • Classroom furnishings and decor are on order.
  • The flooring is complete on the upper level and started on the lower level.
  • Window treatments have been ordered.
  • Painting scope is 50% complete.
  • Roof and rain gutter improvements for the modular are complete.

  • Plans are being finalized for final packing between December 16-20 and unpacking between January 2-5.

Highlights from this week:

  • This week, the fire alarm panel was installed and additional wiring was completed. We’re still waiting on some sensors.
  • The floor remediation on the upper level is complete. Floor demo of the lower level is next week and then the floor install will begin.
  • Painters are continuing to prep walls and paint where possible.
  • We will be ordering faculty desks, blinds, and library bookshelves this coming week.
Updates – October 18, 2024

Highlights from this week:

  • All scope is on track.
  • Floor remediation and demo continues to be on track. Completion date is estimated to be Nov 1.
  • Floor install is estimated to be completed by December 3rd.
  • Painters are working, mostly patching and prep work at the moment.
  • Fire alarm tasks are on track. Earliest completion date is set for Dec 6th. Latest is Dec 27th.
  • New furnishing discussions are continuing with no delays to the schedule at the moment.
  • Playground fence contract is being signed. Fence will be installed in November.
Updates – October 11, 2024

Highlights from this week:

  • Our focus was floor demolition in the upper-level entrance, lobby, and two classrooms. The floor demolition will continue next week in preparation for the new floor install.
  • Room renderings for the model classroom are almost complete.
  • We’re continuing to define the furnishings we will need, such as desks and bookshelves.
  • The move team met and are working on identifying all of the items in various storage areas at Alive, to determine if the items need to be moved, sold, donated, or disposed of.
  • In addition, the lighting and drywall work was completed in the Fine Arts room.
  • Lastly, the electrical inspection was completed and passed.

  • Lights and drywall are being installed in the fine arts room.
  • 50% of the parts for the fire alarm have been received.
  • Classrooms are clear of all previous furniture.
  • Plumbing demolition in the first floor (upper school) bathroom is complete.

Updates – September 27, 2024

Here are the top highlights from this week:

  • The electricians continued installing wiring for the fire alarm system.
  • We held discussions with vendors for the security and phone systems.
  • Removal of left-over furnishings and equipment from the previous school and Parish programs will be completed this week.
  • Remaining furnishings at the site are being moved to the appropriate classroom.
  • We met with Pastor Stephen from Alive and had a great discussion of our upcoming move plan at the end of December.
  • We are prepping the rooms for a visit by the faculty on October 4th where they will start to envision their use of the rooms and other procedures necessary for the school operations.
  • Archbishop Rozanski is scheduled to visit in March to bless our school.

The renovations at St. Richard have begun! Electricians started working to improve lighting and install wiring for the new fire alarm system. Demolition and carpentry were started in the PreK room. Stay tuned weekly for more building updates!

Frequently Asked Questions

Are we planning to start the 2024-25 school year at St. Richard?

Answer:  No.  The renovations required for our school will not be ready in time for an August start up.

When will we move to the St. Richard location?

Answer: The plan is to move over the Christmas 2024 holiday and begin classes there in January 2025.

Will we have larger classrooms at the new facility?

Answer:  Many classrooms are 24 x 30 feet. The classrooms are generally equal or more spacious than current classrooms at Alive.

Do the classrooms and offices have windows?

Answer:  Yes! The classrooms have a full wall of windows.

Will we have Adoration in the Church?

Answer:   Yes

Can we have confession in Church?

Answer:  The Church has confessionals and we have access to them.

Will we have weekly Mass at St. Richard?

Answer:  Yes!   The beautiful church was completed in 1965 and Cardinal Joseph Ritter dedicated the church on January 9, 1966. The church was renovated in 2008.

When will there be a tour of the school for families?

Answer:   Yes, there will be a tour available for St. Austin families sometime this summer.

Will the facility be tested for mold?

Answer:   Yes.  We will test for mold and remediate if needed. The school was renovated in 2006, closed in 2014 and was in consistent use by the Parish through May of 2024.

Will we be able to hold meetings at the school in the evenings?

Answer:   Yes.

Is there a kitchen available for our use?

Answer:  Yes.  A full kitchen is available. Details and schedule need to be coordinated with the Parish for use of the kitchen.

Will we be able to host school plays, concerts, and other school events at St. Richard?

Answer:  Yes.   Details and schedule need to be coordinated with the Parish for use of the gym for these events in the evenings and weekends.

Will we have a large multi-purpose area?

Answer:  Yes.  The gym will serve as a multipurpose area for physical education, sports, large meetings, plays, concerts, as a cafeteria, and more.

Will we have an Art room?

Answer:  Yes.

Will St Austin sport teams be able to use the gym and fields for practice and league games?

Answer:   Yes.  Details and schedules need to be coordinated with the St. Richard Athletic Association for night and weekend use.

Will we be able to use the gym and fields for PE?

Answer:   Yes.  The gym and fields will be available for PE and school related sports activities during the school day.

Will we have an outdoor play gym area for the lower school?

Answer:  Yes!

Will we have to hold PE activities on the parking lot?

Answer:  Only if a specific activity requires an outdoor hard surface.  Otherwise, the students will have access to the indoor gym, an outdoor play gym area, and two large maintained fields for PE and sports activities.

Will drop off and pickup times stay the same?

Answer:  Times are being evaluated now.  Daily masses will be taken into consideration.  We may have access to additional daily Masses.

Will there be early drop off and late pickup available at St. Richard?

Answer:  Yes, same as current practice on Des Peres Rd.

Will we have PreK at St Richards?

Answer:   Yes.  The same 2 day, 3 day, and 5 day programs will be offered.

Will the entrance doors have secured access for the school building?

Answer: Yes.

How will we physically move to St. Richards?

Answer:  We will hire a moving company for the move.
