Our Mission

The St. Austin School cultivates the hearts and minds of students through classical education, forming
lifelong Catholics grounded in the truth of the Faith. We partner with families in the intellectual,
spiritual, moral, and physical formation of their children, fostering a life of cheerful virtue and the pursuit
of excellence as a gift returned to God.

Our Motto

Evangelizare Investigabiles Divitias Christi

The motto of the school is taken from St Paul’s Epistle to the Ephesians:

To preach…the unsearchable riches of Christ
(Ephesians 3:8)

There is a two-fold meaning to this text. Firstly, the teachers of the school wish to bring St Paul’s inspired wisdom to their teaching. The transmission of the Christian faith consists primarily in proclaiming Jesus Christ in order to lead others to faith in Him (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 425 ff).

And secondly, we hope that our children, when they are fully formed, will likewise…burn with the desire to proclaim Christ:

We cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard – (Acts 4:20, Catechism, 425 ff).

Who is St. Austin?

Did you know that “Austin” is the English form of “Augustine”? Our school is named after St. Augustine of Canterbury, a Benedictine monk, who was sent by Pope Gregory the Great in the year 595 to England to convert the Anglo-Saxons to Christianity. After converting King Aethelbert and receiving his royal patronage, St. Augustine founded the Abbey of Sts. Peter and Paul in Canterbury. In 1955, the St. Louis Abbey was established by English Benedictine monks who trace their tradition back to the first English saint, St. Augustine. Our school is proudly named after this great Benedictine saint who courageously brought the riches of Christ to the English-speaking world.
